When the creators of The Keewatin Horror, Jeff and Will, were younger and still
doing the whole Halloween thing (getting candy, dressing up, etc.) there was a
house near the end of Keewatin Ave. that always delivered year after year.
Simply known as “The Freaks” this group of adults would literally transform
their home every Halloween into one big haunted house full of live actors and
very elaborate props.  They had real coffins, very gory and disgusting
depictions of dead bodies, and even an Ambulance turned into a witch doctor’s
office.  The whole ordeal was definitely a spectacle not to be missed year after
year.  Then one year “The Freaks” up and vanished from Keewatin Ave. and
there was a serious gap left on the night of Halloween.

Enter Jeff and Will who would hope to continue the tradition of a yearly event
on the night of Halloween aimed at scaring the young kids of both the street
and the surrounding area.
Originally titled “The Tunnel of Doom”, The Keewatin Horror started off with a sad display that only two 13 year
olds (I think?) could pull off.  The original event went through the entire first floor of 255 Keewatin Ave. and was to
say the least, not scary at all.  With limited money, supplies and creativity the first ever Keewatin Horror was not
the display that it is now.

The pictures explain it all; Jeff and Will were supposed to be the guys from Pulp Fiction (John Travolta and
Samuel L. Jackson) although the jeans and old suit jackets (plus the fact that Will wasn’t black) didn’t really prove
the fact that that’s who they were supposed to be.  Jeff’s mom was also included in the night wearing the most
“non-scary” witch hat ever and telling the kids not to be scared giving out candy.

It was a disaster to say the least and led to no event the following Halloween in 1998 to recover from such a
horrible night.
