In true Keewatin Horror style, 2001 proved to be a definite improvement from
the previous year. Not only did we add a new crew member, Rebecca (Jo’s
friend), but we incorporated bigger props and utilized more space. The
alleyway between Jeff and Erin’s houses was used this year to house Will as
the crazy doctor slicing up one of his patients. A door was built as an entrance
to the alley which would prove to be a benchmark of the Keewatin Horror (until
2003 when it had to be retired for not being safe.)
The driveway of 255 Keewatin Ave. was used once again and featured Miranda
cut in half on a chair (was supposed to look more realistic but time constraints
prevented this from happening). Credit has to go to Miranda though for sitting
the whole night on the cold wet pavement of the driveway for about 3 hours. A
make-shift jail cell was built to house Erin but proved to be very unsteady and
collapsed before the night was over.
Rebecca led the visitors to the crazy doctor in the alleyway by playing a creepy
version of “Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?” and slowly turning in her chair. Her face was all made
up and she even scared some of the crew members. She even took breaks in between visitors coming through for
a smoke and beer.
Jeff was the same as 2000, the guy from the Scream movies, although this year he was using an actual knife
(plastic) as a weapon as opposed to a drill with no drill bit. Jo also reprised her role as the grave yard keeper.
Overall the night was a success, and for the first time in Keewatin Horror history we actually had a line-up of
people. Much praise was given from those on Keewatin Ave. as well as other streets in the neighbourhood. Many
visitors said they really enjoyed that we put the event on every year and hoped we would continue to do so. Of
course we had to deliver!
