In 2005 The Keewatin Horror returned for another night of fear. Following a
year full of accolades, including being voted ‘Best Community Spirits’ by
The North Toronto Post, a dream that was 8 years in the making finally
came true. CityTV graced us with their presence and did an entire walk-
through of our event which was later broadcast on the nightly news.
Highlights of 2005 included the bug ladies from Bugs Without Borders once
again filling the front yard with a selection of bugs and reptiles to occupy
those waiting in line. After a visit with the bugs visitors were positioned in
front of the newly constructed Keewatin Horror front entrance to meet their
fate.
Once inside visitors were enticed by a haunting voice emanating from the back of the alleyway ordering them to come
closer. Upon reaching the back of the alley Jeff emerged from the darkness wielding a chainsaw only to attack his
victim, Miranda, and leave her in a bloody mess.
When visitors regained hearing, after being startled by the deafening sounds of the chainsaw, they proceeded to a
looming coffin which creaked open to reveal Erin, dressed as Bloody Mary, who slowly creeped forward. Erin pointed
visitors towards the infamous cemetery which lay ahead. After passing through various tombstones and zombies
protruding from the ground, a cornfield suddenly appeared in the distance. At first the cornfield seemed vacant until
visitors were shocked by Steve, playing the part of the scarecrow, jumping out front behind the cornstalks.
Once they worked up enough courage, visitors were enticed by the sounds of a police radio radiating from a darkened
bedroom. Upon further inspection visitors witnessed a grisly murder scene being investigated by FBI agents Andre and
Reuben. The horrific scene came complete with a victim’s innards strewn across the bedspread and a trail of blood
splattered against the walls. Even the FBI could barely stomach the gruesome crime that had taken place. Suddenly a
light appeared from behind the visitors to illuminate the city morgue. A badly burned victim, Joanna, began to emerge
from one of the morgue slabs desperately seeking help upon being placed in the morgue even though she was very
much alive. Unable to aide in her struggle visitors proceeded to a large clearing in the path seemingly unoccupied until
Rebecca, the bog witch, began quivering on the ground beneath them. Dimly lit by torches, the clearing gave way to
various debris lining the ground and human limbs hanging from the trees above. Rebecca, speaking an unknown
language and clearly displaying characteristics of utter insanity, moved about the bog attempting to eat the various
limbs. Once visitors were disgusted beyond believe at the scene which they were witnessing they were instructed to
enter a dark tunnel which lay ahead.
Upon entering the tunnel all vision was lost until a dimly lit sign appeared with the words “Friday the 13th”.
Unbeknownst to visitors, Jason Voorhies (Will)of the classic Friday the 13th movies was waiting within the tunnel
wielding a large machete. If visitors could make it past the looming figure they would enter the Doctor’s office complete
with Dr. Nick hacking away at a dismembered body hanging from the wall. A pounding heartbeat could be heard in the
background to add to the scene. Once the Dr. had left the building visitors were relieved to see the light at the end of
the tunnel and exited The Keewatin Horror’s yard back to the safety of the street.
Once again our success is solely dependant on the invaluable effort that each and every crew member puts into pulling
off the event, as well as our sponsors who donate countless resources. This year saw a group of 4 sponsors who were
all so very dedicated to ensuring the success of The Keewatin Horror. Special mention goes out to Adrian Feudale of
Alltech Solutions Inc. who dedicated many hours helping us set-up and testing equipment.
This event is surely impossible to pull off without all those who attend year after year. We have been lucky enough to
have seen children from the neighbourhood who may have been too young a couple of years back and refused to enter,
but this year managed to brave our event. The enormous amount of support we receive each and every year from the
members of this community is something we are very grateful for. Without YOU, The Keewatin Horror would not be
possible, and as a result we shall return for another year in 2006!
